what derek has been up to.

So I've clearly been missing for quite a while. Besides extensive amounts of work on the car, I'm sure there are many blanks when it comes to what has been going on in my life. Here are some of the highlights from the past month or two =D.

- NA NAAA NAA NA NA. NANANANA NA NA NAA. [that's me singing the Iron Man song]

No better way to start off the term than watching the midnight screening of iron man 2. That's 14 tickets (actually its 15... they printed me one extra by accident). I know there are people who didn't like the movie, but I actually loved it. Robot butt kicking action! Simon Ho, this one had way more robot action.. so you have no reason to not love it.

- Dave & Busters in Toronto to unwind and just play time crisis allll nighttt lonnnggg. Fun times.
I also played ticket games... so that I could win me THIS BABY:

Oh yes. It's beautiful and resides in the backseat of my car permanently.

- One Friday night after CCF, decided to go grab McDonalds. I really wanted a big mac combo (thanks to sean's announcements) so I ordered that. Then I noticed that happy meals were for SHREK.... so I felt obligated to buy one... so I got a nugget happy meal so that I could get my awesome toy =D. This is also permanently residing in my car now.
I was so full afterwards. so much food =\.

- I had Ye's sushi about 3 or 4 times since the term started =\. Pretty gross. I'm going to stop spending my money there.

BUT, of course, I set my benchmark record for sushi eating contest =D.

40 points! I think there are some adjustments I'd like to make to the sushi scorecard... but maybe another time. I still feel full from it (ate about a week ago). No more heavy eating this term =\.

-Batmobile!

-The best Chinese wedding banquet ever. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Congratz to Thomas and Bernice! =D.

- UWCCF
This term, our theme is 'Where is the love?'.

What we're attempting to do is really stretch the fellowship's boundaries in what it means to be a Christian group on campus and to live out 'Love' here @ UW. This really stems from thoughts I've been having when it comes to 'loving your campus', which is why I decided to run operation DPwall back @ the start of winter term:

[That's a cross and the word Love on our campus' main library. We open/closed the blinds on each floor to make that effect... although the blinds aren't too good, so the effect isn't that super =p]
Back to the 'where is the love?': what we're trying to do is a 3 week rotation.
1) BBQs to socialize and converse with friends/strangers over food
2) No strings attached acts of kindness/love to campus
3) Direct campus evangelism

A lot of questions may come up as to why we focused in on those three aspects, but it's largely a result of what Committee has discussed and what we feel is important to, as a fellowship/family, go through to really learn what loving our campus is about. Of course, it's more than just having bbqs and giving out water/freezies on hot days - But it's also more than just shoving the Gospel in people's faces. So what's it all about? Summer term is always a good time to test new things out. Really, we're in the process of learning still and I'm excited for the events to come =).

First BBQ went great, by the way.

Leadership in UWCCF this term has been a great learning experience for me as well. I'm blessed with a really young, adventurous, light hearted and loving committee to serve with. [Whaddup, FPCom!] I'm still learning what it means to pass off my leadership skills/experiences [or lack there of] to help the younger ones in being prepared for their turn to step up into more visible positions. Sometimes I think I just look lazy from the outside... but I'm learning =).

Of course the biggest thing that took up my time the past two months was Campus Challenge 2010. But I think I'll save that for the next post =D.
